January 28 marks the Day of Personal Data Protection, and the cultivation of a culture of respect for this fundamental individual right and freedom is an obligation in both the public and private spheres.

The Office of the Commissioner for the Right to Information and Protection of Personal Data collaborated with the Ministry of Education and Sports (MAS), the General Directorate of Pre-University Education (DPAP) and its dependent structures for the development of awareness activities in several high schools general in the country. They were held in the gymnasiums “Ismail Qemali” in Tirana, “Hydajet Lezha” in Lezhë, “Dhaskal Todri” in Elbasan and “Naim Frashëri” in Durrës. The meetings were part of the activities within the Personal Data Protection Week.

With the participation of students, teachers and parents, these meetings focused on expanding knowledge on the safe use of the digital environment and technology, for effective protection of privacy and personal data. Developed in the form of free conversation, they presented the role and functions of the Commissioner’s Office, discussed the rights and ways of exercising them, as well as shared practical advice regarding the behavior of young people in order to protect personal data. A legal, responsible, transparent process with high security standards in the processing of personal data also affects the sustainable economic development of the country. In this way, these activities serve the important objective of the best possible education of the young generation, but also the incentive for the preparation of skilled professionals in this field.
