The implementation of the legal framework by the tax and customs administration

The Information and Data Protection Commissioner’s Office, in collaboration with the Training Center of the Tax and Customs Administration at the Ministry of Finance, conducted a 2-day training module. More than 70 employees from various central and local levels and structures of these institutions participated in this activity. They were familiarized with fulfilling the obligations of the current legislation concerning both areas of responsibility of the Commissioner’s Office, the role and functions of the institution, as well as the implementation of this regulatory framework in relation to the activities of the tax and customs administration.

Attention was given, through the examination of specific cases reviewed by the authority over the years, to promoting and strengthening the proactive transparency of these institutions, balancing and proportionately addressing both rights, and taking the necessary technical-organizational measures for a high level of security in the processing of personal data. In light of technological developments and the digitization of services, cooperation and interaction with responsibility and transparency towards citizens and interest groups is simultaneously required to ensure the practical exercise of these rights. Fulfilling legal obligations, both in the area of the right to information and in the protection of personal data, strengthens the culture of integrity and accountability in the functioning of the tax and customs administration.

The Commissioner’s Office welcomes any initiative for the development of such training with other important institutions of the state/public administration.
