The Information and Data Protection Commissioner’s Office, in cooperation with the Office of the Presence in Albania of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE), held an activity at the premises of the “Thimi Mitko” Library in Korça to present the findings of the Unifying Recommendation “On compliance with legal obligations in the framework of the protection of personal data for controllers of higher secondary education”. This meeting was attended by representatives of the Municipality, local educational structures under the Korça Regional Directorate of Pre-University Education, teachers, psychologists, parents and students.
For the Commissioner’s Office, organizing such regional meetings is very important for strengthening awareness, cultivating a culture for guaranteeing fundamental human rights and freedoms, as well as the highest quality education for the younger generation. The Recommendation highlights issues related to the correct implementation of legislation in this field, in particular, the implementation of appropriate security measures and the preservation of the confidentiality of personal data, especially in the use of platforms/social networks. Special care should be taken with information on minor children/students (under 18 years of age), in order to avoid serious consequences that may arise due to the online publication of their personal data. At the event, the Commissioner’s Office also presented the principles of the training module “On the protection of personal data and privacy while surfing the Internet”, drafted by the institution, a document that serves educational structures on the proper use of social networks, care for the protection of privacy and personal data, as well as the importance of online security from the risks encountered in the digital environment.
