The EU Delegation welcomes the adoption of the new law “On the Protection of Personal Data”

The Delegation of the European Union to Albania has welcomed the adoption of the new law “On the Protection of Personal Data” in a message shared on social networks. The European diplomatic headquarters considers this an important achievement in the country’s journey on the road to the EU.

The message says:

We welcome the adoption by the Albanian Parliament of the revised law on the protection of personal data, following intense and fruitful cooperation over the past years between EU experts and those of the Albania Ministry of Justice and Information and Data Protection Commissioner.

Strong data protection, rules and standards are an essential part of a democratic system and are instruments in upholding fundamental values and individual rights. This is a major achievement for Albania on the road to the EU.

The effective enforcement of data protection rules will require a high level of awareness among the citizens, the private sector and strengthened capacity in public administration. An independent and well-resourced Data Protection Commissioner will continue to play a crucial role.
