January 28, Commissioner Dervishi open lecture with students of the Canadian Institute of Technology

In the framework of January 28, International Data Protection Day, the Information and Data Protection Commissioner, Mr. Besnik Dervishi, held an open lecture with the students of the Canadian Institute of Technology (CIT).

The lecture focused on introducing the areas of activity of the Commissioner’s Office.

Dervishi familiarized the students with the innovations in Law No. 124/2024 “On the Protection of Personal Data,” which align with technological advancements, digitalization of services, and innovation. He emphasized that the law, published in the Official Gazette and set to come into force in early February, ensures the highest standards established by the EU’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). However, he stressed the need to raise awareness, particularly among young people, about the importance of privacy and the protection of personal data.

In addition, Commissioner Dervishi provided an overview of the Right to Information, access to information, the Commissioner’s Office’s commitment to increasing transparency, combating corruption, and ensuring accountability by public authorities. He highlighted the importance of raising public awareness as key elements in the implementation of the law and Albania’s progress in the process of integration into the European Union.
