“The sixth edition of the international conference “Recent Trends and Applications in Computer Science and Information Technology – RTA-CSIT 2025”, organized by the Department of Informatics of the Faculty of Natural Sciences, was successfully held. This event was attended by Albanian and foreign academics (University of Camerino, Italy, Lynn University, Florida, USA, University of Tirana) as well as representatives of public institutions (The Information and Data Protection Commissioner, AKSK, Agency for Innovation and Excellence, etc.) who discussed the latest trends in the field of technology/artificial intelligence and digital security.
At the opening ceremony, the representative of the Commissioner’s Office, Ms. Pjerina Mema (Director General of the General Directorate for Personal Data Protection) announced, among other things, the adoption of the new Law No. 124/2024 “On the Protection of Personal Data”, fully aligned with the European Union’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) as well as the innovations of the law.
This law was considered an important step in strengthening the legal framework in facing the challenges of the digital age.
The Commissioner’s Office stressed that the development of technology and artificial intelligence (AI), while bringing great benefits, is also accompanied by potential risks to the privacy of data subjects. It underlined the importance of AI systems respecting the principles of personal data protection legislation, such as transparency, data minimisation, prior consent and ensuring the fundamental rights of the individual.
The Commissioner’s Office also appreciated the initiatives “Cyber-Drill Hackathon” and “Safe Digital EU” Summer School, which contribute to raising awareness and educating young people on cybersecurity and personal data protection issues.
The conference continued with in-depth scientific discussions on the impact of new technologies on modern life and the need for a collaborative inter-institutional ecosystem to guarantee security and digital rights in the future.
