On November 26, 2025, the Information and Data Protection Commissioner’s Office held an information and awareness-raising activity with a focus on the implementation of legal obligations for the secure processing of personal data of minors and victims of trafficking, as well as the promotion and respect for privacy at every stage of the administrative process.
The activity was held in Tirana, with the participation of representatives and experts from state institutions, non-profit organizations and structures operating in the field of trafficking prevention and child protection, to discuss the challenges and obligations arising from the new law on the protection of personal data.
The meeting was chaired by Ms. Pjerina Mema, Director General at the General Directorate of Personal Data Protection at the Commissioner’s Office and began with the welcoming remarks of Ms. Mema and representatives from the Directorate of Migration, Asylum and Anti-Trafficking Policies of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. In the opening remarks, among other things, the necessity of increasing the standards for the protection of the rights of victims of trafficking and the rights of children, as some of the most sensitive categories of data subjects, was emphasized, also in terms of the legislation for the protection of personal data.
The panel continued with the presentation of the representative of the Commissioner’s Office, Ms. Renata Neli, on the supervisory role of the Commissioner, the findings and recommendations resulting from the investigations conducted in institutions and organizations that process personal data of minors and victims of trafficking. Further, the activity continued with the presentations of two representatives of the centers that process personal data of minors and victims of trafficking, regarding their activity and the measures related to guaranteeing the protection of personal data.
The meeting was accompanied by open discussions on strengthening inter-institutional cooperation, increasing the capacities of responsible institutions and their role in promoting the secure processing of personal data.
In conclusion, the Commissioner’s Office emphasized its continued commitment to monitoring human rights and data protection of vulnerable categories, as part of national efforts to prevent trafficking and protect minors.
