On the occasion of 28 January – International Data Protection Day, the Information and Data Protection Commissioner’s Office organized an awareness-raising and educational campaign, which included various schools in the capital and public activities. The aim of the campaign was to increase public awareness, particularly among children and young people, about the importance of personal data protection and the responsible use of technology in the online environment.
The campaign was implemented in primary and lower secondary schools and high schools in Tirana through the distribution of informational posters in school premises and classrooms. The posters contain practical advice on safe internet use, the protection of personal data, and safeguarding individual information. At the center of this year’s campaign is the message: “Caring for personal data is respect for the freedom and dignity of each and every one of us!”, which reflects the institution’s commitment to strengthening citizens’ trust in the fair and lawful processing of personal data, in accordance with the principles of Law No. 124/2024 “On the Protection of Personal Data”.
In the same context, students from the “Shkolla e Kuqe” in Tirana visited the premises of the Commissioner’s Office to learn more about personal data protection and the safe use of technology. With curiosity and creativity, the children presented works prepared by them, demonstrating how they understand the importance of personal data and the respect for individual rights in everyday life.
The visit was welcomed by the Commissioner, Mr. Besnik Dervishi, who emphasized that education on personal data protection should begin at an early age, as part of building a responsible culture and strengthening civic awareness. Subsequently, the Director General, Ms. Pjerina Mema, delivered an informative presentation on ways to protect personal data, providing practical examples and awareness-raising materials from other countries on safe internet use.
On the occasion of this day, the Commissioner’s Office also conducted a public awareness campaign in cooperation with electronic communications service providers and second-level banks, through the dissemination of awareness messages and informational notifications via their applications.
In cooperation with Radio Tirana and Top Albania Radio, the Commissioner’s message was broadcast, emphasizing the importance of respecting every citizen’s right to the protection of personal data. The campaign was accompanied by the publication of informational materials and awareness-raising articles in the media, in order to promote a responsible approach to the processing of personal data.
