In the context of global developments in the field of personal data protection, the Global Privacy Summit is taking place in Washington, D.C., one of the most important international forums dedicated to privacy and data governance. The Information and Data Protection Commissioner, Mr. Besnik Dervishi, is also participating in this important event, and is closely following the latest developments in this field.
The summit opened on March 30 and during these two days the activities have focused on advanced training sessions and strategic discussions on the latest developments in this field. The first day was characterized by the organization of workshops and professional trainings, focused on topics such as governance of artificial intelligence, management of privacy programs and international data transfers. In parallel, round tables were also held between experts and professionals in the field.
On March 31, the summit continued with the opening plenary session and high-level panels, where key issues such as the future of global privacy, regulatory challenges related to artificial intelligence, as well as mechanisms for ensuring security in cross-border data transfers were discussed. The focus was also on the practices of the public and private sectors in fulfilling legal obligations and increasing transparency.
The summit will continue on 1 and 2 April with in-depth sessions on the practical implementation of data protection legislation, including concrete cases of surveillance and punitive measures, as well as discussions on developments in specific areas such as health, finance and technology. The final day is expected to address the future prospects of combining artificial intelligence with privacy, as well as the importance of strengthening international cooperation in this regard.
