Commissioner Dervishi meets British Ambassador Nicholas Abbott

The Information and Data Protection Commissioner, Mr. Besnik Dervishi, received in an official meeting the British Ambassador in Tirana, Mr. Nicholas Abbott.

The meeting discussed the progress made by Albania in recent years and in particular regarding the areas of activity of the Commissioner’s Office, the right to information, the protection of personal data and open data as well.

Commissioner Dervishi expressed his gratitude to Ambassador Abbott for the continuous support and the excellent relationship built over the years with Britain.

Mr. Dervishi introduced the Ambassador to his role as Information and Data Protection Commissioner, for which he said he feels privileged to have led this institution for years. The Commissioner emphasized that he has tried to give his maximum contribution to raise the professional level of the institution, as well as to strengthen relations with partners and counterpart institutions.

Mr. Dervishi informed the Ambassador about the activities of the Commissioner’s Office, its functions, and the legal initiatives undertaken over the past few years. Referring to the May 11 election process, Mr. Dervishi informed the Ambassador about the contribution that the Commissioner’s Office has made in drafting a series of acts of the Central Election Commission, such as the acts on the PER system, privacy policies, drafting confidentiality statements, drafting the decision for voters from abroad, etc.

Commissioner Dervishi also emphasized that the security of systems is very important in the context of the protection of personal data and in this regard, the focus of the Commissioner’s Office is to prevent data leakage situations.

Ambassador Abbott expressed his appreciation for Albania and the qualities of the Albanian people. Mr. Abbot praised the work of the Commissioner’s Office and reconfirmed the support of the United Kingdom, providing professional expertise in order to further enhance institutional capacities and apply the best international standards.
