OECD invites the Commissioner’s Office to share experience in the field of information law as one of the best international practices

The Information and Data Protection Commissioner’s Office was invited by the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) to participate in the event “Increasing access to information in Jordan: the role of public institutions in the effective implementation of the new regulatory framework”. The OECD praised the Albanian authority as a model to follow for its experience and high standards in the field of the right to information, which is why it was selected, alongside the Spanish authority on the right to information, to share experiences and best practices in this area.

The event was organized by the OECD, the Ministry of Culture, and the Information Council of Jordan, with over 80 local authorities and more than 100 senior representatives from central institutions, including ministries and other key entities in the country. Jordan is the first state in the Middle East and North Africa region to have adopted a right to information law, and it has further improved it as of April 2024.

The Commissioner’s Office presented an overview of the legal framework for the right to information, the monitoring and supervisory functions of the authority, the transparency program instrument within the proactive transparency of public sector bodies, and the awareness-raising activities focused on collaboration with civil society and interest groups.

Participation in this activity is evidence of the increasing capacities of the Office, as well as the recognition by international organizations such as the OECD, which has identified the Commissioner’s Office as one of the authorities that has implemented some of the best international practices in the field of the right to information, further consolidating the culture of transparency for accountable public institutions.
