Accountability and integrity in public administration are essential for strengthening the culture of transparency towards citizens. On the occasion of September 28, International Day for Universal Access to Information, the Commissioner’s Office held an informative and awareness-raising event at the premises of the Commissioner for Oversight of the Civil Service.

Legislation on the right to information, as well as that on the civil service, aims to shape a responsible and professional public administration that provides quality services while respecting the fundamental rights and freedoms of citizens. The purpose of the meeting was to exchange experiences among officials, to become familiar with respective best practices, and to identify similarities or common points within the regulatory framework in exercising responsibilities according to their areas of activity. One of the key issues discussed at this meeting was the publication of information/documents related to decision-making by public authorities as part of proactive transparency, as well as the consolidation of the role of the coordinator for the right to information within institutional structures. Attention was given to the proper implementation of civil service legislation in balancing and proportionately addressing the right to information and the right to personal data protection. This collaboration and interaction among staff from independent institutions ensures a broader understanding of each other’s legal frameworks and procedures, promoting accountability and integrity in the exercise of institutional competencies.
