The Information and Data Protection Commissioner’s Office considers the process of raising awareness and promoting a social culture that prioritizes the guarantee of fundamental human rights and freedoms to be very important. In collaboration with the OSCE Presence in Albania, an event was held at the ’28 November’ high school in Shkodër to present the findings of the Unified Recommendation ‘On the Compliance with Legal Obligations in the Framework of Personal Data Protection for Controllers of Upper Secondary Education.’ Representatives from the Municipality, as well as from all local educational office’s under the Regional Directorate of Pre-University Education in Lezhë, teachers, psychologists, parents, and students were present at the meeting.
The Commissioner’s Office emphasizes that the development of such regional meetings impacts the promotion of interaction in support of the mission for high-quality education for the new generation. This recommendation highlights issues related to the proper implementation of legislation in the field, especially regarding the enhancement of security measures and the protection of personal data confidentiality, particularly when using social networks and technological platforms. Special attention must be given to the personal data of children/students under 18 years old (minors) to avoid severe consequences that may arise from the online publication of their data. At the same time, the Commissioner’s Office also presented the principles of the training module ‘On the Protection of Personal Data and Privacy While Browsing the Internet’, developed by the institution. This document serves educational structures for the proper use of social networks, care for the protection of privacy and personal data, as well as the importance of online security against the risks encountered in the digital environment.
