The 4th meeting of the ICIC Executive Committee for 2025 takes place

Under the leadership of the Information and Data Protection Commissioner, Mr. Besnik Dervishi, the fourth plenary meeting of the ICIC Executive Committee was held. The focus of the discussions was the constitution of the 2026 Conference Planning Committee. The Committee decided that, for the next edition of ICIC, this structure would also include representatives of international associations and organizations, in addition to the members of the Executive Committee and ICIC members. Among these organizations, UNESCO was singled out as a key partner of the ICIC community, OECD, the Centre for Law and Democracy from Canada, as well as other actors with an important role in the field of the right to information. This decision aims to enrich the planning process with expanded expertise and contribute to the drafting of a more comprehensive program for the open session of the conference.

This session was also attended by representatives of UNESCO and the British Information Authority (ICO), who presented the initiative to promote the document of principles on the right to information, adopted at the Berlin Conference in June 2025. The UNESCO representative presented an overview of the steps envisaged to advance this initiative and requested the support of the members of the ICIC Executive Committee for its promotion through diplomatic channels, including competent state authorities, with a view to the adoption of the document at the UN. The Commissioner’s Office appreciated this initiative and expressed its readiness to support this initiative.

In continuation, the Commissioner’s Office presented the ICIC Special Bulletin, drafted in its capacity as the ICIC Presidency-Secretariat. This product summarizes the initiatives and projects of ICIC member countries in the framework of the celebration of the International Day of the Right to Information (IDUAI) and aims to serve as an information instrument for the promotion and exchange of international best practices in this field.
