The Information and Data Protection Commissioner’s Office held on November 7, 2025, within the framework of the International Fair “Klik Ekspo Group 2025”, the discussion panel on the topic: “Data Protection as Infrastructure of the Digital Future”.
The activity was held at the Palace of Congresses and brought together experts from public institutions, business representatives and the banking sector, for an in-depth discussion on the importance of personal data protection in the era of digital transformation.
The discussions focused on the implementation of the new law no. 124/2024 “On the Protection of Personal Data”, its impact on the public and private sectors, as well as the role of data protection in building a sustainable and secure digital future.
The panel was moderated by the Spokesperson of the Commissioner’s Office, Ms. Joniada Koçi and brought interactive discussions between public institutions and business on new standards of compliance and transparency.
The panel was attended by:
- Ms. Blerta Nerguti, Secretary General in the Commissioner’s Office;
- Ms. Pjerina Mema, Director General of Data Protection in the Commissioner’s Office.
- Mr. Dhimitër Shuli, Vice President of the Digital Committee of the American Chamber of Commerce and Technical Director at Beta Balkan Team;
- Mr. Arjan Ymeri, Director of Startup Albania Agency;
- Ms. Elona Llaci, Director of Strategy and Innovation at Raiffeisen Bank;
The participants shared experiences and concrete practices on how data protection can serve as a basis for innovation and economic development.

Ms. Blerta Nerguti underlined the role of the Commissioner’s Office in implementing the new legal framework and preparing practical guidelines for institutions and businesses, while Ms. Pjerina Mema stressed the importance of a culture of compliance and raising awareness among public authorities and the private sector, as part of the institutional strategy for the first year of implementation of the law.
For their part, representatives of the private sector emphasized the need for close cooperation between businesses and the supervisory authority, the Commissioner’s Office, so that data protection becomes a competitive advantage and an integrated element in digital products and services.
The panel concluded that innovation and data protection are not contradictory, but go hand in hand in building a sustainable, secure and trustworthy digital Albania.
Following the fair’s activities, the Commissioner’s Office also participated in the international panel “Cybersecurity & Digital Resilience”, where Ms. Besa Velaj, Director in the Cabinet of the Commissioner, contributed to the discussions on the interaction between data protection and cybersecurity, the impact of artificial intelligence on personal data and compliance, as well as the need for cooperation between the public and private sectors to strengthen digital trust. The Office’s participation in this panel, alongside representatives of international institutions and experts, underlined the importance of integrated approaches between personal data and security in building a sustainable digital infrastructure for Albania.

The activities were held as part of the broader program of Klik Ekspo Group 2025, with the theme “Window to the Future – Albania 2030”, where the Commissioner’s Office was present with a dedicated informative and interactive stand, promoting a new culture on personal data, transparency and digital innovation.
