The Information and Data Protection Commissioner’s Office participated in the Ministerial Program of the Global Mobile Industry Association, organized within the framework of the Mobile World Congress Barcelona 2026. This activity took place from 2 to 4 March 2026 in Barcelona, Spain.
The institution was represented by the Information and Data Protection Commissioner, Mr. Besnik Dervishi, as well as by the Director General for Personal Data Protection, Ms. Pjerina Mema, who participated in the main sessions of the forum and in the meetings dedicated to data protection authorities.
The Ministerial Program brought together global telecommunications leaders, regulators, data protection authorities, international organizations and technology industry leaders, confirming itself as the world’s leading platform for policy debate on the future of the mobile ecosystem and the digital economy.
Discussions focused on the challenges related to rapid technological innovation, the global technology race, investment in electronic communications networks, the expansion of fifth-generation technologies, digital inclusion and the regulation of the data economy. Privacy and the protection of personal data were addressed as essential elements for strengthening trust and ensuring the sustainable development of the sector.
A highlight was the closed-door roundtable “Strengthening Trust and Security through Mobile-Led Innovation”, dedicated to Data Protection Authorities from around 22 jurisdictions, where experiences were exchanged and common approaches were discussed on the integration of privacy policies with developments in the mobile ecosystem.
The program concluded with the Global Mobile Industry Association Privacy Dinner, an exclusive invitation-only event for counterpart authorities and key stakeholders.
Participation in this important international forum strengthens the institution’s commitment to be an active part of global discussions and to contribute to the advancement of personal data protection standards in the digital age.
