Strengthening transparency at the local level in focus of the Commissioner’s meeting with the “Strong Municipalities” project

The Information and Data Protection Commissioner, Besnik Dervishi, held a meeting with Norbert Pijls, head of the “Stronger Municipalities” project, where the focus of the discussions was on strengthening transparency and improving governance at the local level.
During the meeting, concrete ways of cooperation were discussed to increase access to information, improve data governance and strengthen accountability in local self-government units. In this context, it was emphasized that transparent municipalities constitute an essential element for building public trust and for promoting the active participation of citizens in decision-making.
The parties examined the possibilities of harmonizing technical support, capacity building and the development of policy dialogue, with the aim of empowering local institutions to fulfill their obligations for transparency in an increasingly data-driven environment.
The Commissioner’s Office appreciates the cooperation with the “Strong Municipalities” project and reaffirms its commitment to continue efforts in support of a more transparent, accountable and responsive local administration towards citizens.
