Awards ceremony for the competition

“Protect your privacy during the navigation on the internet”

Today on 28 January 2016, in the European Personal Data Protection Day, at the premises of National Gallery of Arts in Tirana, the Commissioner’s Office organized a awards ceremony for the competition “Protect your Privacy during the navigation on the internet”. This kind of activity is considered as one of the best ways to raise awareness and acquaint the youths and children with their rights in order to protect privacy and personal data considering the rapid development of social networks.

This ceremony was attended by Mrs. Dewi van de Weerd, Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands; Mrs. Nora Malaj, the Deputy Minister of Education and Sports; Mr. Olsi Dekovi, representative of Council of Europe in Albania; representatives of Raiffeisen Bank and Dudaj Publications as supporters of the activity; pupils and teachers of “Jeronim de Rada” school of Tirana and other guests.

In his welcoming speech, Mr. Besnik Dervishi, the Information and Data Protection Commissioner as expressed his satisfaction for the participation and the quality of work by the pupils in this competition, the Commissioner highlighted that in the digital age the education for protecting privacy and personal data must be obtained at the school desks. According to him, the high level of attendance and pupils’ will, expresses significantly the increasing process of awareness by the new generation for this constitutional right.

Mrs. Dewi van de Weerd, in her speech considered this competition as a very valuable experience. In the meantime, she considered the Commissioner’s Office as an important partner also in the framework of the six-month presidency of European Union being held by Kingdom of the Netherlands.

Mrs. Malaj, praised the commitment of pupils in this competition, as well as emphasized the already institutionalized cooperation with the Commissioner’s Office in organizing activities of this kind of nature.

The organization of competition “Protect your Privacy during the navigation on the internet” with primary schools with works on essay and poetry and in drawing and painting is an initiative of the Commissioner’s Office as part of the celebration of 28 January, European Day of Personal Data Protection. In cooperation with Ministry of Education and Sports, this activity was attended by 21 primary schools from 17 cities of the country, pupils of which delivered 500 works in total for the two categories. Below is the list of winning awards:

Category for drawing and painting:

First prize – Eden Fetahu, “Jeronim de Rada” school, Tirana;

Second prize – Irda Pateriku, Eneida Barbullushi, “Ndre Mjeda” school, Shkodër;

Third prize – Jimena Qarri, “Sevasti Qiriazi” school, Korçë;

“Raiffeisen Bank” special prize – Melisa Mali, “Kushtrimi i Lirisë” school, Durrës.

Category for essay and poetry:

First prize – Kristjan Qoku, “Papa Kristo Negovani” school, Erseka;

Second prize – Jonida Morina, “Avni Rustemi” school, Kukës;

Third prize – Kledi Saliko, “Naim Frashëri” school, Fier;

“Dudaj Publications” special prize – Detjona Avllaj, “No.1” school, Krujë.

The cup for the best participating school in this competition was awarded to “Jeronim de Rada”, Tirana.
